2011 COPPERSTATE Fly-In & Aviation Expo to Host Fuelventure 200/400 Fuel-Efficiency Competition
The Southwest’s premier aviation event, COPPERSTATE Fly-In & Aviation Expo, will take place Oct. 20-22, 2011 at the Casa Grande Municipal Airport in Casa Grande, Arizona. This is the 39th-annual event and the country’s largest all-volunteer fly-in.
This year, special events include the Fuelventure 200/400 competition on Sat., Oct. 22. This competition determines the most fuel-efficient aircraft. It is well known that competition improves the breed; the intention of Fuelventure 200/400 is to spawn competition for fuel-efficiency improvements, which could ultimately benefit all of general aviation. Better fuel efficiency for general aviation is just good for everybody!
The competition is simple: Each aircraft and its passengers are weighed in on Fri., Oct. 21 at the Casa Grande Airport. Departures for the events will take place the morning of Sat., Oct. 22, at 0700.
Contestants will fly either the 200 mile course for airplanes flying 60 to 119 mph or fly the 400 mile course for aircraft 120 mph or faster. The finish will be at the Coolidge Arizona airport for the weigh-out to determine the amount of fuel consumed.
After your aircraft is weighed, return to the COPPERSTATE fly-in as per the arrival NOTAM. Special parking for the contestants will be provided at COPPERSTATE. The results will be tabulated and displayed at the fly-in. Plaques and prizes will be awarded at the COPPERSTATE banquet Saturday night.
Awards, Prize Money and Bragging rights for the top Miles Per Gallon as well as top CAFE scores for Speed, Payload and MPG.
This is the third-annual Fuelventure 400 at COPPERSTATE. There is no entry fee, but liability coverage is required. The event is open to all aircraft.
